Building a Better Yesterday
When the Night of Rage hit after the first UGE explosion, many metahumans were terrified of being lynched. Droves of them fled into tunnels beneath the city, the ruins of old subway and maintenance tunnels and sub-basements of abandoned structures. Many of them never left, and a community of metahumans built up around those who fled to the Underground and remained there. Orks, being the most-represented metahuman variant in the Underground, give it the name by which it is most commonly known, but it teems with dwarf and troll refugees from the surface of the Seattle ‘plex, also.p. The network of tunnels has been expanded over the years to connect major networks with lesser ones and one another, and someone who is thoroughly knowledgeable about the various paths and byways within the Underground can virtually cross from one end of the Metroplex to the other without ever touching the surface. There are entrances scattered all about the city, and the disenfranchised in most neighborhoods know where the nearest way into the Underground can be found.
